International English Language Testing System (IELTS) is one of the most popular English language proficiency tests for non-native English language speakers seeking opportunities for study abroad, migration or work-visa purposes in English speaking countries such as USA, UK, Australia, Canada, New Zealand, Ireland, South Africa etc. It is jointly managed by Cambridge University English Language Assessment and IDP Education Pvt Ltd. Over the last 10 years, DIKSHA has helped more than 600 learners to ace the IELTS exam with an average score of 7.5 and thus pursue their higher studies or professional career abroad.

There are two versions of the IELTS

The Academic Version (IELTS – Academic) is for students planning Study Abroad or for medical professionals such as Doctors or Nurses who wants to study or practice in English Speaking countries. The General Training Version (IELTS – GT) is for other professionals planning to migrate or work abroad. IELTS is globally recognised by more than 11,000 universities, colleges, schools, employers and immigration bodies including 3,400 institutions in the USA. Like all other English language proficiency tests, IELTS too has 4 different sections – assessing the test-taker’s ability to Read, Listen, Write and Speak in standard English language. Each of these 4 sections is graded on a scale of 1 (non-user) to 9 (expert user) and the overall IELTS band score is average of the sectional scores.

IELTS Test Structure

IELTS can be taken as Paper-based test or as Computer-based test. The Listening, Reading and Writing sections of IELTS are completed on the same day but the Speaking section is generally scheduled a day or two before or after that. The total test time for Listening, Reading and Writing sections combined is 2 hours and 45 minutes. While Listening and Speaking sections of the test are same for both IELTS Academic and General Training modules, Reading and Writing tasks are somewhat different.
