There are two versions of the IELTS
The Academic Version (IELTS – Academic) is for students planning Study Abroad or for medical professionals such as Doctors or Nurses who wants to study or practice in English Speaking countries. The General Training Version (IELTS – GT) is for other professionals planning to migrate or work abroad. IELTS is globally recognised by more than 11,000 universities, colleges, schools, employers and immigration bodies including 3,400 institutions in the USA. Like all other English language proficiency tests, IELTS too has 4 different sections – assessing the test-taker’s ability to Read, Listen, Write and Speak in standard English language. Each of these 4 sections is graded on a scale of 1 (non-user) to 9 (expert user) and the overall IELTS band score is average of the sectional scores.
